Re: Energy, wouldn't the invisible hand of the free market lead us to depend on oil until it ran out?

Since I got so many responses saying it was economically inviable to switch to alternative energy sources.. I get it.. oil and coal are cheaper. They're also fossil fuels, natural resources that took millions of years to develop and that will run out, and not in that long, likely... so yes, it's more expensive to switch to more viable solutions, and might require subsidies, but in the long run, doesn't it make more ecnomic sense to switch to an energy solution that isn't going to run out? Even in pure economic sense? (Nevermind the catastrophes that await us should we continue polluting the earth, nor the impact should we run out of these vital fuels and not be ready for it?)
