Is there any harmful effects of spanish colonization to Philippines?

The harmful effects of the Catholic religion is the major obstacle to the Philippines becoming something other than a third world nation. Look at most of the countries that were colonized by the Spaniards and still are predominantly Catholic, they are all third world countries. Coincidence? I think not.
