HELP with APA style essay?

When I am using an idea from a journal and putting it into my own words as well as emphasising on it, how to I cite the source...do I need to cite within my paper (like at the end of a sentence) as I would do for a quote?? Or do I just leave it as is (in my own words and expanded) and just cite it in a bibliography?
